Heron downs massive eel
4 Answers
I spotted a heron on the river bank at the bottom of our garden this morning. It seemed to be dancing around in a very unusual way & I soon realised why. It had a massive eel in its beak & was trying to think of a way to swallow it. The eel was still alive & trying to escape.
After several minutes, the heron managed to flick the eel into position & ate it whole. I noticed the heron resting for some time afterwards, probably regretting eating such a huge breakfast, before taking up its position again on the bank for more eel-catching.
Nature is truly amazing.

We used to catch them in the local harbour, bring them home, skin them and as we cut them into 2" pieces they were still wriggling all over the chopping board. I bet the heron will know for quite a while what meal it has inside!
