As the keys to No.10 slip away from Cameron's grasp will the Conservatives lurch to the right and back to the Nasty Party. That is what happened in 2005.

Are we about to see a repeat?

the phrase seems to have been used first by Theresa May, Tory party chairperson
Chair "person" ?

Maybe that was her problem.

If she wasn't woman enough to be the Party Chairman, she shouldn't have stood for office.
she may have been chairman, chairwoman, chairperson or chair. It wasn't her fault they lost.

"We are no longer the Nasty Party - David Cameron.

But can he resist a return to it, if it becomes apparent they are losing?

Don't care what they do, as long as they keep their promise about the Inheritance Tax threshold.

Then they will be the "nice" party !
If by Nasty party you mean lefty hating then you have a good point. Most likely the party would see Camerons softly softly approach as having not worked. Whether or not it will leap totally to the right is another matter. Personally I would prefer a move more to the right, although a Tory I am not a cameron fan.

Of course the same could be said of the labour party. Polls have shown without doubt (whether they win or not through a flawed voting system) that they are out of favour. Will they lurch more to the Left and hard line Unionism ?

If we get a hung parliament it would be unlikely to last a full term, so I reckon you could be right, but I think both parties will re align so could get interesting again.
failing again would pretty much put them where Labour were when Kinnock lost. They then moved so far to the centre that they lost touch with their roots, which was electorally very successful. But the Tories have already done this; so I suspect their next move would have to be back towards their own roots... which is partly in a nasty direction.

Equally interesting: which way will Labour go if they get thrashed?
I would welcome the label, "Nasty Party" is what the left call the Tories when they try and fix problems. If you're not upsetting those JArthurs then you not doing your job properly.
yeah raising iHT to a million realllly sorts this country out doesnt it R1!

thats really gonna help. I wonder if that makes me a traitor though to dismiss a tory policy?
your definition of traitor has expanded exponentially over the last few days!
