How can I remove some old sticky labels which are stuck on the side of my toilet and washbasin. They are not immediately obvious but I know they are there and would like to remove them without damaging the surface. Thanks.

WD40.

Good Lord! That was quick. I will try it now. Thanks.
No WD40 or "Sticky Stuff Remover"? Try the nearest container of hairspray. Take a look at the contents and make sure it includes alcohol though...

Thanks to you all.
so just use alcohol. vodka will do
drink the alcohol and then you won't mind the labels!
kim and aggy used mayonnaise, they spread it on the label, left it for half an hour then scraped the label off with a plastic spatula.
If all else fails, cover the labels with ordinary cooking oil and leave overnight/24 hours.
Probably similar to the suggested mayonnaise, I suppose.
Cooking oil is good for plastic containers which can be damaged by some solvents and other removers.
nail varnish remover (acetone)
Any type of oil, ie baby oil, put on, leave for a min or two, and then it'll just5 come off.
