how old do you have to be now to buy and drive a car in the uk.
people keep telling me the age limit is going up, and i cant find any laws on the internet about it. they never seem to tell us much.
is it still 17 to drive?
can i take my theory at 16?
and can i take my test at 17?
thanks.
There's no minimum age for buying a car. If a billionaire gives his 5 year old child massive amounts of money, and that child decides to buy a Ferrari with it, there's nothing to prevent it. He can even drive it (if his feet can reach the pedals!) as long as he does so on private land.
However there's a minimum age of 17 years before a driving licence can become valid, and you can't take your theory and practical tests until it is. See here: http://tinyurl.com/caq9ul
Unless you are in receipt of Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate, in which case you can apply for your licence 3 months before your 16th birthday and start driving at 16.
