holiday pay
my mum has just put in for holidays from her work. she changed her dates as the boss said her first lot of dates she couldn't be on holiday
now she's found out shes not getting holiday pay. is this allowed? nothing was said to her about this when she started so has just presumed as she's employed by the company that holiday pay would be the norm

The (minimum) number of days which they must receive is calculated as 5.6 times the number of days worked each week. So an employee working 5 days per week is entitled to 28 days paid holiday. (However a cap of 28 days also operates. Someone who works 6 days per week still only gets 28 days paid holiday).
Paid holiday periods can include 'enforced' holidays , such as when the business is closed for Christmas, public holidays, etc.

If her compamy's holiday year startes in april, as many do, then if she has booked a holiday early in the year, within the first 3 months of the financial year for instance, she will not have accumulated enough holiday days, for that reason some firms don't allow it. Thing is though, using that system, holidays end up getting backed up and too many people are left with too few months when holidays can be taken to suit the business, it's better to let staff take their holidays sprewad out throughout the year, then if they should leave during the year the holiday pay is deducted from final salary
i had never thought of that dot , if this is the case and she kept her holidays because she was not allowed to take them when she wanted then she could phone her head office but i wouldn't bet on her getting them they will just tell her she should have took them before ,but it is worth a try ,good luck for your mum
