I'd like to buy an overdoor hanger but the door is 4.25 cm thick;  all the hangers I have seen fit doors up to 4cm thick. Does anyone know if/where I can buy a wider overdoor hanger for thicker (fire) doors please?

Get the 1 1/2" one and cut off the back. Drill the top and putting a small screw through to hold it on the door.

If you have a proper fire door it should be strong enough to hold a screw on coat hanger anyway.

firedoors shouldn't have a gap at the top wide enough for an overdoor hanger to be used. The very purpose of the door is to stop smoke and heat getting through.

As BillyBB says just screw something to one side of the door and put the hanger there

Many thanks for the replies. I was hoping I would not have to do any drilling as I'm hopeless but I see what you mean.
