New beginner golfclubs

I would like to buy some new golf clubs and need some on advice on which ones to buy.

I have only just started playing golf (about a month) so am not very good but am really getting into it and I don't want to spend anymore than �400 on a full set. Any advice on what I should buy? Will ordering on the net save me much money? What should I be looking for? should I buy anything else to help me start out?

i got my 1st set from ebay.excellent for beginner players like myself and very cheap - just over �100 if i recall

Hi. My husband is a golf professional and recommends that you should think about doing this.

Firstly a course of lessons with a PGA Professional would be a good start. This will give you the best introduction to the game. You should be given the basics that will get you started and stand you in good stead for the future.

Any good pro should be able to give you sound advice as to what clubs to buy. things that you should be made aware of though to give you some knowledge are:

1. Clubheads should be perimeter weighted. This means the weight in the clubhead is evenly distributed. This helps user friendliness!

2. Clubheads should be cavity backed. This will help you get the ball airborne. Traditional blades are a no-no at this stage.

3. Oversize clubheads might be benificial and help you get the most out of an off centre hit of the ball.

4. Shaft flex and whether to go for a steel shaft is a bit more tricky. As a general rule greater the swing speed then probably a stiffer shaft would be benificial. A steel shaft is generally heavier than a graphite shaft but graphite will help you get more power into the shot as it is usually lighter than steel.

As a club pro then the advantage is of buying off someone like me is that after sales advice is on offer as opposed to the net. Not to mention that a good pro is an expert in their field and not some faceless store dealing on the net. (or some spotty saturday kid working at a sports shop!)

Clubs that might be good for you: Progen Full Bore irons, Wilson DI5s, Mizuno MX17s.

There are some reasonable deals out there for Full set packages such as 3 woods, 9 irons, putter, bag, trolley etc. But avoid "value" from places like catalogue retailers and sports shops etc.
