Eating Oysters

What is the point of swallowing them whole? Surely the taste and flavor experience comes from chewing and savoring the expanding flavors on your tongue? Have any of you tasted cooked oysters? What are they like?

I've eaten fried oysters in New Orleans. Not much about them really. Couldn't try them raw.

My experience of eating oysters is that they have no taste or flavour of their own, apart form seawater. Hence the need for plenty of black pepper and lemon juice. Whilst I love seafood, oysters leave me cold and if I never had another one again I wouldn't be bothered. Give me mussels anytime.

Chewing an oyster? Ohh, gross!

They are wonderful, and delicious ... they leave a coating in your mouth and throat which is simply exquisite ...

... washed down with a bone dry white, or a chilled fizz ... FAB !

But ... you wouldn't want to chew one !!

For a long time, I couldn't eat them, even though I liked them.

I heard that the food poisoning from oysters was so terrible it usually put those that had off of oysters for life!

I was too scared to try on again for several years ... if you have a reaction to one, it is really horrid ... liquid from both ends !

Fried oysters were slightly chewy and tasted of the garlic they'd been cooked with. They were in breadcrumbs and could have been anything at all. Unremarkable.
