A work-around is to change it to .txt or open up the document in WordPad then cut and paste them into a new Word document then re-format them to the original look. Do they open up alright on another computer? How about a work PC with Office 2000/XP? You could always try re-saving them with an application you know works. I know you can save document files in different formats ie Office 97.doc, Office 2000 .doc or RTF formats but this is unlikely since you have saved/viewed them on many occasions. Alternatively, you could try repairing the word document using a 3rd party application such as CrossFingers: http://www.levitjames.com/Downloads.html
