Presumably it's just a certain way of shaping your mouth or using your vocal cords while talking - in the case of Chinese people, it suggests they're trying to make the sounds typical of the English language while they are used to constructing the sounds of their own language. (eg French people may say 'zees' instead of 'this' because they don't have the 'th' sound in their language and are used to longer vowel sounds than we are).
So something has happened that affects this woman's muscle structure and makes her speak differently. It doesn't actually have anything to do with being 'Chinese'. If she couldn't produce a 'th' sound properly any more, you'd think she was being 'French'.
