recycling lids from tins

for some reason ive got it in my head that you cant recycle the lids from tins. i dont really know where this has come from. so i just wanna know.... can i, or cant i?

are the lids made from the same material as the tin? if so then yes you can recycle them..
you could always open the tin from the bottom, then recycle the bottom :o)
Yes, I throw the whole lot in my recycling bins, lids and all. Take the labels off first tho, they go in paper recycling. I'm still not clear about plastic bottle tops though, I put them all in at the moment but someone said the tops are made of different stuff and don't recycle - anyone know?
It wouldn't surprise me if there was some daft health and safety ruling about it in case somebody cuts their hand!

The lids are made of platinum to help preserve the food. Save them up and take to a jeweller, they're worth a fortune.

Might I suggest you try it the other way round, my betting is you'll find it a lot easier to get the lid in the tin prior to crushing it.
