a couple of times late at night he used a taxi so that he got off at the door and he found them ok.

quite some time since I went, but I can still remember the mini-buses. Brilliant. They'll just stop, open the doors and let you on, and drop you off anywhere you like on the main road. Coming back in the market, where they're all trying to get your business is a joy.
very cheap too.
for an 'official' bus, it's still cheap. We went to the races, and hired one to take us there and back, around 10 of us, and it was still very cheap. Sure you'll still find it reasonable, and unlesss you want to go off into the unknown, I'd recommend just getting cabs everywhere. Not like here with the meters, just agree a price before you go. They're friendly, and good.

In Bridgetown you can't walk more than ten yards without being offered a taxi. Many hotels have a taxi driver or firm associated with them too and will give you a card when they drop you off so you can call them to collect you again. Or get on the Beep Beep Buses as the others have said (not recommended for the overweight or claustrophobic though - man they pack you in!!!)
