My son has a 05 corsa twinport which keeps overheating. It has had the head gasket done at least twice (that we are aware of) and now it won't start. Anybody got any ideas what the problem might be and what he can do other than change engine?

How old is the car to have had the head gasket done twice?
Question Author
bobjugs - the car is a 2005 with approx 75k miles
The head gasket has gone twice on a five year old car, and now your having issues with the starter and cooling.
I'm not a mechanic, but i'd be suggesting walk away and get a new motor before this one goes tits up when he's 150miles from home with a car full of mates
I would say the head is cracked.
Was it pressure tested and resurfaced on either occasion?

Take out plugs, turn over on starter and see if there is water in any pot that comes out.
Check sparks at plugs (which you should put into leads whilst you carry out above excercise)

Albags, allegedly it was pressure tested and resurfaced but I have my doubts
I agree .. good way to encourage a sale through ... "head gasket changed, but it was pressure and crack tested" (when it wasn't)
Another indicator "might" be a compression test ... it "may" show up a burned/water-damaged cyl. Steam from water can cause burn down past rings of piston, or rapidly erode bore or valve seat.
