I think he was killed by the Lord or the butler. The Lord had been abusing Bryony. Her mother had found out about the abuse so she was killed too.The butler was protecting the Lord.
The phone rang so i kind of missed what was going on too!
Bryony's father killed himself after Stephen Black visited him and told him that his wife had not run off with him. Stephen must have also told him about the abuse, plus the fact that he saw the birth pills in Bryony's room he realised that she was also sleeping with Titus.
Oh dear I am even more confused now. I thought I was getting it but fell asleep for the last half hour. How many villains were there and who was arrested?
The main killer was the Butler or House Manager with the stammer, and the friend of James. He killed Stephen Black and Linda because they threatened "his family". Scarlet caught him trying to move Black's body in the church, so he persuaded her to write the love letters because he knew he had killed Linda and Black found out and told Bryoby's father who then killed himself. The butler then killed Philip (the wife's lover) accidently when he was arrested! So, The Butler was arrested for multiple murder, the Lord was probably arrested for paedophilia and Scarlet was arrested for perverting the course of justice!! Oh yes, and her marriage to the wealthy Arab was called off! And we thought Midsomer Murders used to be complicated!

Thank you all very much, especially carolegif. I will have to pay more attention next time.
Phew - a close rival to Midsummer Murders I think, Thank's alot for the answer Carolgif!
So why was the wife's lover shot in the arm in the re-enactment? He seems to have had a lot of bad luck poor soul.
That was so the murderer could move Black's body. The Butler put live rounds in some of the muskets in the hope that someone could get shot and people wouldn't notice him moving the body in the Land Rover.
Ah, thanks carol. You wouldn't happen to know how The Bill ended last night would you? My "pause" stopped so missed the last 20 minutes.
Don't watch the Bill, sorry!
