I love most vegetables but broad beans are tops especially from the pod but frozen
ones just as good! What veggies do you enjoy and try to make enjoyable especially for the kids
You have to snap it oscarina. It's only the ends that are stringy. Hold it just below the tip and at the end and bend. It will naturally snap by the toughest point.
Always get the freshest you can oscarina. Trim from the bottom of the spear with a very sharp knife a litlle bit at a time until you can cut through it with virtually no resistance. We used to use an old coffee pot on the stove and cook the spears in the upright position, but these days I cook them horizontally in a good thick bottomed pan. Usually takes just a few minutes when they are a really fresh supply.
The old lady who lived next door a few years back had what WAS an asparagus bed - each year the things just grew and grew, the ferny bush was about ten feet high - and as you say, spread sideways....
Asparagus steamed in the microwave is lovely, the thicker stems just need 5 minutes but the finer stems can be done in three minutes.
Roast beetroot is very good but it does take longer than other vegetables to roast. It is also a good addition to vegetable soup for a change.
I can't think of any vegetable that I don't like.
Memory is a strange thing, some 40 years ago I was on medication where I couldn't eat broad beans (amongst other things), and although I used to eat them when I was a child, I haven't ever taken to them very much since. Green beans now, French beans, yum!
