I quite liked physics - my teacher was very easy going. In fact, all my science teachers were laid back and cheerful. 'Twas the maths teachers that were demented.
I got a demerit once for flipping the bird at the maths teacher.
Well, you did ask.....Chemistry, Physics, Zoology( distinction in sex problems) .Botany, Maths, English Language, English Language, Art (nude paintings a speciality) Rugger (colours) Hockey (colours) Cricket (colours) Athletics (Cross Country, 800metres, 1,500metres)
I remember my music teacher hitting a lad in my class. He just went up to him and hit him really hard in his face with the back of his hand and sent him flying.
Didn't have a favourite subject at School (I disliked the place and couldn't wait to get out) but French and Home Economics I was quite good at. I hated the rest.
I liked Home Economics (Cookery) but my teacher was a bit mad. She was only about 4ft8 but she could shout for England. She made me go to her house once for a meal - twas quite an experience. Despite being incredibly rebellious, all my teachers liked me. Hence I got away with murder.
Our school, unfortunately, was quite snobby. It was an All-girl's High School in a very affluent area. The daughters of doctors, accountants, professionals, rich farmers, solicitors, consultants etc were singled out and treated 'special' by our more snooty teachers. We daughters of manual workers, farm workers, blue collar workers were not quite so singled out unless we had an exceptional talent.
So, thank you Mr Clay, Latin & English for being absolutely lovely and not giving a sh1te about the fact that my dad worked on the land for a living, we lived in a council house and I was as good and worthy as the daughters of aristocracy.... He nurtured, encouraged and did not discriminate. He's dead now :-(
