Hi i have a problem i use windows media home cinema, and when i watch films from the laptop to tv through hdmi i can usually watch them no problem and i close my laptop lid sit back and watch them, however, with some avi files when i play them put them on full screen of my laptop (as usual i do) when i close the lid (like i always do) it sometimes freezes then flashes on a still image and i can here the audio fine but picture is frozen and flashes please help, i have tried using VLC player, dvix, windows media player but them 3 when i close my laptop lid goto half screen, i clone my pc to tv but this fault i never used to have its becoming more common recently and its bugging me and before anyone suggest leave the lid open you get flashing lines down the screen when lid is open thanks

you've not said what version of windows, so can give precise directions.

But basically look under the advanced options for power saving and set the action for when you shut the lid to "do nothing"

its vista and it is on do nothing in power settings as i explained i can watch other avi files
Before closing the lid, look on your function (F1 to F12) keys for a little tv screen symbol. Keeping hold of the "Fn" key, press tv screen symbol key until just your tv screen shows the picture. Now close your laptop lid.
