I live in the third house of a terrace of four. The house next to me on the end has access to the rear garden via a side entrance. There is an alleyway that goes along side the other end house and to the back of our properties stopping at the end of my garden. On the deeds its says that this alley has to be kept clear in case of an emergency. I have lived here for 22 years and the owners of the end house even longer. They have only ever used the alley on one occasion in all this time as they always use their side entrance. They have the gate into their garden tied up to the drainpipe of their shed so access would not be very quickly gained should it need to be. Because of this I have bought a small compost bin and positioned it in front of their gate in the alleyway at the end of my property. Access can still be gained past the bin easily so for this reason I thought it would be ok. However the neighbour has just said that I have to move the bin because of what it says on the deeds. The neighbours are not friendly and were not happy about us building an extension recently so I guess this is them getting their own back. What would happen if I chose to ignore their request to move the bin. In fact I would have to get rid of it completely as there is nowhere else to put it....so much for trying to be green!!
I would imagine that you will have to move it if you are blocking access via their gate. It doesn't matter that they never use it, they might want/need to one day!
Thanks for both answers. Everyone I have spoken to have said how pathetic the neighburs are being about this and like I said before they could get past the bin if they needed to. Will have to decide what to do, but will poss get rid of it to another good home.
