Salisbury Plain

The area is strewn with tank tracks which cross the public roads in many places. Is it ok to go on them, e.g. cycle ? I see warnings not to pick anything up, etc, but nothing to say absolutely keep out.

As far as I can remeber it is perfectly ok, as long as you stick to the public road. I think I remember once stopping for a tank crossing, although I might have dreamt it. I love going for drives (not being a driver I mean being taken for drives, mostly with my dad) across salisbury plain. Military stuff is cool. Fact.

As one who has been in the Army I would NOT follow tank tracks on Salisbury Plain!  Stick to the public road.  Salisbury Plain is the Army's playground and main armoured vehicle exercising area.  Why would you want to cycle on a path with the chance of a Challenger or APC coming at you at full tilt, unless you have a death wish!
