too much oil in my car

i think i have put too much oil in my fiat punto causing thick billowing white smoke from the back when driving,will this clear itself without any lasting damage.

yes, if it.s fitted with at catylitc converter you have almost certainly ruined that. you will get oil leaking out of every where possible as the back pressure within the engine struggles to escape. drainit and start again...
