TV speakers

I know most of the new lcd tvs are rubbish as far as sound is concerned. I would like to get a couple of speakers to improve the quality, not one of these 5 speaker affairs, but something that is neat and without too many wires. I have a Sony lcd tv and was wondering whether the Bose 3 companion which is really for pcs although I understand you can use it with tvs would be any good or perhaps a soundbar.

Have you tried playing it through your home stereo system? I have mine playing through it and it sounds superb
