bobjugs' flag
9 Answers
I've just noticed the flag on bob's new pic.
I guess it's hung vertically ... with the "seam" horizontal at the top.
Therefore, the broad part of the white stripe should be "highest against the flagpole" ...
... which, if the flag is on it's side, would put it on the right.
Over bob's shoulder is the bottom edge of the flag ... with the broad white stripe on the right.
At the other end of the flag ... the top, or "seam" edge ... the broad white stripe would be on the other side ...
... the left.
I'm just wondering if the flag on bob's avatar has been hung back to front ?
(or is the person who hung the flag in distress?)
Just wondering.
I'm happy to be corrected.

Fluffy ... the "front" of the Union Flag had the seam on the left , and the broad white stripe at the top.
To hang it horizontally, whilst still looking at the front, you turn it 90 degrees clockwise.
This moves the broad white stripe from the top ... to the right.
At the other end of the flag, it's the opposite way round so, at the bottom, it should be on the left.
On bob's picture, the broad white stripe at the bottom is on the right !!
So the flag's the wrong way round ... a signal that the person flying the flag is in distress !!!
