we've been looking at getting some windows replaced at home, have had one quote so far which seemed high so were considering getting more.
Anyway a neighbour is having windows fitted today and of course the reps are in the area.
I said i have a quote and was told i'd get a call from head office which has just come in.

I also said i didnt want to be pestered by salesmen, just a quote. I hate the hard sell

so this call ive just had made me think twice.

"we do ask that both partners are at the property as, due to what we see in news all too often, we dont like staff to see people on their own for your safety"

i said Mr CRX could be in or could be out, thats the nature of his job, so they are phoning back to check hes here.

Hes gonna go mad when he hears theyve said that lol

No they want you both there because they want an immediate decision, otherwise you can say I want to talk it over with my husband/wife/partner. It has nothing to do with safety.

well they will give us one price, none of this "call my manager and see what they can do" cr@p and can then sood off.

mind you, 10 mins in the house with a hyper 4 and 2 year olds and they may be begging to leave lol

Few tips red - haggle with them - never accept the first, second or even third price.
They normally phone the head office to see if the deal can be done - then you may get the story of how they will take a cut in their commission so you can have the finally agreed price.

My two front bay windows were quoted at £7,000 and finally got him down to £3,000.

Good luck

Angel - I know I thought it was a bit steep aswell - hence the haggling.

They are bays which had to be made because the original windows were flat and I had them leaded.

Den, we already have that sussed from years ago. NO calls to head office or managers. ONE price only, no amendments.
we dont run our companies like that and wont deal with those that do. :)

tbh i just want the quote for comparisson. We need building work too, wall bricked up to give smaller doors instead of patio doors
I agree you must haggle. We had 3 quotes of 12K, 10K and 7K from 3 different companies, by telling them and each of them offering a deal each time we ended up paying 3.5. If I'd been on my own I'd have accepted the first cheapest one which they rely on but my OH (partner, bf whichever term doesn't upset somebody) did the haggling over the phone.
Question Author
i know what youre saying prudie, but i wont haggle with companies like this at all.
I have one quote from a reputable independant. i shall tell the big companies that only one price will be accepted as being their quote so they should put best price in first or they dont get any further contact.

Not that it matters anyhow, Mr CRX has just been called out on a shout so they cant come over anyway lol
