employment law - urgent advice please
I made a stupid mistake and got involved personally (romantically) for a very brief period with a customer. When i tried to end the relationship gently, he flipped, stalked me, tried to get money (thousands of pounds) out of me to 'buy' his silence. Then he confronted me in the street making threats. Police arrested him but bailed him. He then went to my work and told them - providing emails as proof. I have been off sick with stress through this - scared to leave my house.
HR are now asking for a meeting. Can they sack me because of this ? Can they sack me while I am off sick ? I am thinking of resigning rather than go through any more stress. Please advise me.

How did you handle your relationship? Did anyone else at work know and, if not, for what reason? Did you believe it would be frowned upon by the company?
How significant a customer was it? have the firm lost work because of this?
You can be sacked when you are off sick but there is more to it than that.
If you have been there less than 12 months you have a lot less protection.
