Where offers the best rate to convert Euros back into sterling?I can't seem to find anywhere which offers a rate comparable to what I paid in the first place!

You won't, there is a bid offer spread, that's how they make dosh.
If it is a relatively small amount of cash that you have left over from a holiday you could keep them until you go to the Eurozone again.
The difference between what you paid and what you get back is of course pure profit for the exchange people. The best bet may be to sell them to friends you know are going abroad. They can get some cash for the airport when they land and neither of you pay fees for the transaction. You both end up winners.
Go to the Post office, they change it back commission free, that's what I did when I got back from Rome
