Managed to persuade OH to come with me this weekend, to do a Car boot sale! Great opportunity to get rid of loads of junk.

how much would you see as reasonable for clothes (most of which have got tags still on but i cant be bothered selling on ebay) and books?

Depends what clothes and how old they are even with lables on - Get them to make you an offer, then say Hmm, I was hoping for - £5-10 more or whatever amount you feel fit, then compromise in the middle somewhere. And if your OH is anything like my OH - please STIPULATE that you are getting RID of junk, that doesn't give them free license to go buy more!! No, you don't need that old sit-up-and-beg typewriter that's got a sticky shift key....or that pifco travel hairdryer that might/might not work....or a year's supply of ambre Solaire sun tan oil that's three years out of date already...things I put up with - or not!!!
Awwww MS, your such a spoilsport. We want to buy the broken lawnmower because we're men; and as men we have an urge to prove ourselves by fixing Sugar and then showing off about it

thanks mercia. i think the idea of getting them to make the first offer is a good idea.

as for the OH, its taken so long to persuade him to come with, there'll be no chance he'll be walking round (he'll probably sit in the car all morning)!
and I didn't say sugar!!
Question Author
i was reading your post bob and thought "what the fluff?!" - sugar!!!!!!
We know what you said....!!!!
Huh bobjugs, don't I know it! you should see my spare bedroom AKA the junk room - full to the brim with old amps, electric guitars, there's even an old mixing desk in there now that everything in the basement has gone digital!
Even new clothes at car boot sales cannot be sold for much more than you would get for second hand ones, the whole point of car boot sales (for buyers) is to get a bargain. A couple of quid for trousers, fleeces, blouses, etc. Maybe a fiver if something is really good but only a pound for shirts, jumpers, and things like that.
Books need to be 50p each or less, unless they are really collectors items. Paperbacks about 25p each.
And whatever price you ask, they will all knock you down, so make sure you overprice to start with. Good luck. Weather has been so bad here, too wet for car booties down here. They have put their prices up .. £1 to get in with a car now as a buyer. Is it the same everywhere ?
Question Author
thats what i thought for books, 25p just to get rid!
ive got loads of clothes (people have been passing bags of clothes to me since i mentioned i was doing a car boot sale! i'll be keeping the money tho!) - some designer, some high street, so i think i'll treat it all as it comes. thanks for the answers all!
Fingers crossed for weather tomorrow, jb -- no rain yet. And keep an eye on things, they seem to go walkabout if you get too many people around your stall .. get a friend to keep their eyes open when you are busy taking money .. good luck. Let us know how you get on.
put your table in the back of the car last, when you get there, it's easier to set up. We usually lock the car and walk away to get a coffee, otherwise you'll have them in your car etc. Last time someone tried to take my bag of sarnies and flask of coffee! Get yourself a bumbag for the money, with a separate zipped bit for the notes. And Good luck!! A mate will be a great help
Question Author
thanks kia and smurf. my other half will be the reluctant helping hand - he'll probably do some rain dance tonight, in a desperate attempt for us to cancel!
