Work Rest Play - whirlpools
6 Answers
Argh! I made a huge mistake! Obviously I said I was drawing a bedroom and I decided to draw a painting of a flower like it's hung on the wall but I drew it too big without realising and then I painted it then I drew the table next to it and it's so small compared to the painting!
And I drew clothes on the floor because the floor looked quite empty and I have started painting! then my teacher told me that the painting of the flower is bigger than the table and how it looks like the clothes are floating about - basically he told me I can put a BIG whirlpool in the middle like everything is spinning around. Any ideas how to do this?

I had to do a whirlpool effect for a transcription and my art teacehr said it was easiest if the paint is stil lwet when you do it, and get a wet brush and swirl a circle, starting with the middle and working your way out.
Or you could start again and try and get the perspective right. But then what my teacher would say is, keep both and evaluate the first, saying how the perspective is wrong and how you improved it.

You could try this..practice on an old picture cut from a magazine first
Use a clear tinted glaze in two colours blue and grey would work , set the centre of your whirl pool off centre and using thick brushes paint the spiral with the two colours touching so they can run into each other .. cover the whole surface with the tone deeper in the centre of the spirals. This technique will allow the underlying picture to show through. Before the glaze is dry choose areas of the picture you want to highlight eg a corner of a piece of furniture or an item of clothing and carefully blot away the glaze allowing better views of the objects you have chosen.
