computer making wierd jingles

i have this and a revision website open, and i keep getting wierd noises that last for about a seocnd that suddenly blare out from the speakers.

But neither website produces sounds and there's nothing else that can make it, and its definatly coming from the computers speakers.

Sometimes its a bleep and just a few seconds ago a swishing noise was made !!!!!!!!!!!

At first i thought it was something i clicked, but just now i was reading a thread and hadn't clicked anything for a couple of minutes and the kind of noise that doesn't come up when yuo click on something was made aswell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you on AOL and if so, do you have the AOL instant messenger thingmebob?

no, i know the internet definatly isn't aol, our box has orange and siemens written on it, and it never makes a noise, only flashes.

no rojash, i have msn but i never open it and it isn't running with an icon in the bottom corner so it can't be that.

no minimised programmes, only the internet is running.

Mollykons I am glad you posted on this becuse the same has been happening with me the past couple of nights. It's really weird and I wondered if I had clicked on an advert or something. When it happens it like a sudden loud ( and I mean Loud ) blast in the speakers. happened earlier tonight and I nearly jumped ouit of my skin. I hope someone can come up with any ideas of might be causing it. i do not have MSN and perhaps just one other website open usually One Look Dictionary Search.

I should add that it only happens when i am logged into AB.

I'm not sure about it only happening when on AB, but it only happens to me (and mum and dad) every couple of days for the past couple of weeks.

Plus its not always the same noise, like i said sometime its a bleep that's sometimes low and soemtimes high pitched and last night it sounded like a sudden rush of wind.

I'm hoping that someone will give us an answer to this 'cos it's a bit frightening when it is a loud noise like it was last night.

Think I have found out the cause - it can happen if you have a mobile or land line phone right by the PC and comes with a build up of static.

dad thinks it might be that there's dust inside the tower thingy (my minds gone blank for the proper name), he's going to dust the insides at the weekend.

I'm getting the same thing I thought it was just me, I'm at a loss to describe it, It's a bit like an arcade game noise and then maybe a telephone beep every so often, this has been going on for two or three weeks. I thought it might be an incoming e-mail but it wasn't.
