Semi-Permanent Hair colours...advice needed

Hi everyone, a question for you hair experts. I'm looking for a semi permanent hair colour that will cover hair that has a base colour and highlights. In other words the last time I had my hair done, the hairdresser highlighted it in foil packets and applied an all over colour in between. The colour now is dark blonde/fair with about two inches of grey roots. I can't afford to part with over £150 to get my hair redone at the minute, so I'm looking for a temporary solution to make my hair look a wee bit better. I looked at one or two packs and they seem to suggest that semi permanents can't be used with highlighted hair. Can anyone offer any advice please. Thank you so much.
