Is there book on the market that deals with step by step logic. You are asked a question and move to another follow on question depending on your first answer. You continue to do this till you get to the final answer. Hope this makes sense. If not, just treat it as the ramblings of an old man

None of the logic books I've seen are like the kind you describe. Elementary logic books tend to deal either with sentences replaced by letters (truth tables and so on) or logical fallacies (errors in reasoning). Are you looking for a book for a particular course you are studying?
there are logic puzzle books available in most bookshops, shelved along with the sudoku books and crossword puzzles. Sorry if that's not the sort of book you're looking for.

thanks you guys. What i'm after is like the stuff you see in newspapers, only more serious questions than:

Why is my back sore?

have you been bending or lifting weights?

Yes.would probably throw up a final answer of ;You have used muscles you don't normally use and your back is in spasm.

No. would lead to a suppliment question of ;have you knocked your back recently etc etc

Obviously the more NO answers the longer the the trail to the final answer.

Should I change jobs, move house ,emigrate is the type of questions I would like answered logically

ah, I know the sort of thing you mean, but no, I have never seen a whole book of it - though sometimes it may be used as a way of giving advice in particular books. I have a medical encyclopedia that uses this technique to help advise readers what particular sorts of pain may mean and what to do about it.
