Herbivores dwell in a remarkably short food chain. They do not predate on other animals and are usually only preyed upon by top predators.
Having said that ...... I have heard that cattle may annually consume as much as 10lb of insects that live on the grass the eat.

Actually, the previous chain was a bit light on the detail. Cowpats do not lead directly to grass. Indeed grass finds it remarkably difficult to force its way past all that herbivore/herdivore poo, not to mention all the poo produced by the carnivores and omnivores feeding on the herbivores/herdivores. Scarab and other burying beetles and bacteria do the tiresome task of clearing away and converting the poo into nutrients which can lead to the next crop of grass.
