come dine with me
Did anyone see the episode of CDWM that was on yesterday (can't remember which channel), with the guy who had a framed photograph of his dead mum in her coffin in the spare bedroom? Wasn't it gross. When he was asked about it over dinner, he said that he had done an embalming course and had actually embalmed his own father after he (the father) had died. I don't think he did it for his mother, but it was so yuk!
My OH can't understand what I see in the programme, but I just find it compulsive viewing! I love it when the contestsants brag about how well they can cook and the food turns out to be rubbish and they generally don't have a clue .....

Shame but i suppose that's the producion staff at channel 4 for yer!!!!
in reply tho, yes it is completely un-natural to embalm your own parent, especially for a hobby!!!!

Spence was such a lovely guy on the programme, apparently his sister had cancer and he needed the money for her, and then he found out he had it as well, and he died. The guy with the embalming, I think that was a repeat - was he a big guy with a funny eye (?!). I saw that a while ago. Dont forget folks, Celebrity CDWM on Monday night ...
Late this afternoon, I managed to catch the last "episode" of that set (when the posh airhostess cooked) and it turned out that Spence and the posh airhostess tied for first place - so they split the dosh 50-50 of course. Yes, I realised it was a repeat, but compulsive nevertheless - and it makes for great chat around the coffee machine at work. Had no idea about his illness.
What else do you expect from C.4?

chokkie - Spence (that died) didn't win, Gill did, but gave half her winnings to Spence for a cancer charity. Gill and two other contestants, Richard and Gabrielle began a charity in Spence's name after he died.
The stuck up girl Sophie, who lived in a mansion with her rich boyfriend, didn't work and spent her time riding her horses, looked down her nose at the others and called them "peasants" when she didn't win and had nothing to do with the charity they founded.
Perhaps there's been a CDWM with another Spence in? Out of all the CDWM programmes there have been, this particular one sticks in my mind because Spence was an absolutely great guy and it was tragic that he died a couple of months after the programme was made.

I have the distinct feeling that I am just confusing episodes. I'm stuck at home at the moment with a broken ankle and usually watch the box in the afternoon with my left foot up on the sofa. And tend to surf from one programme to the next - so not surprised that I've got confused. Nevertheless, it's still compulsive viewing .....
