Hi, my 21 year old has for a couple of years been sweating very badly at night, so much that the sheets get soaking and he has to lay on a towel, but what worries me is that he says it dosn`t smell like normal sweat or body odour it has an awful smell, i know body odour isnt pleasant at the best of times but he says its not the normal body odour smell, he is going to the doc this week about it, but in the mean time can aybody shed any light into what may be the problem. Thank you
In the majority of cases, particularly in you adults, like your son, it is no big deal, just annoying and not a lot can be done about it.
Rarely, there is a medical cause which needs investigation and treatment.
it's no use speculating, try not to worry too much. The smell of sweat comes from bacteria breaking down on the skin, and sometimes what's been eaten can cause sweat to smell 'different' a friend of mine had to stop eating his twice weekly curry because his GF could 'smell' it on his skin. I hope the doc quickly allays your fears and tells you everything is normal.
