How can I prevent my dog from rolling in cow and horse muck when I take him out on the local hills.  Its very annoying having to put him in the shower after nearly every walk

The dog likes the smell.

Loosen up - buy a hose - apparently its a hunty thing - if the dog rolls in something then the animal it stalks wont know its a dog.

Its a bit like getting a labrador not to swim _ they wont (not swim)

be glad its not foxes muck

paker rolled in that on tuesday,I washed him straight after,he went swimming in the sea wednesday and the dog washer came and gave him a proper hydro bath yesterday and its still lingering, give me horse poo any day.
Wait until they try it in a dead seagull then you've got no option but to sit in the car with them on the way home.

years ago when we were buying this house we came back after putting in the offer to measure up. The house had been empty for some time and (unbeknown to us) a fox had taken over the garden. Out runs darling doggy while we measured up....in runs darling doggy phew!!!.

anyway, long story short, wash off the worst then rub well with tomato juice, then rinse again it really does work.

stop taking ur dog for walks in crappy fields
My GSD used to roll in decaying dead hedgehog. That was an awful smell too.
