Anyone know of any scientific reason for why many women end up a shoe size bigger after child brith, Irrespective of their weight! I have lost all my baby weight but my shoe size has gone from a 5 to a good 7-8! It's not all bad I have had to buy new shoes which is never a bad thing! But was wondering if there is a scientific reason?

never found out why, but i went from a 6 to a 7 with my first but nothing changed with my second.

My ribs splayed and never went back to normal though, which i hate :(
My ribs splayed ??? What's that?
Ribs splaying. Isn't that what happened in the film Alien?
Actually, a genuine question, why do women get hairy bellys when they are preggers?
Hormones..
rib splay is caused when baby is up high, the ribs will actually start to expand and push further out.

It hurts like hell at the time
yes, hormones, bob.
And the linea negra is also hormones and skin pigmentation (not a line caused by wearing tights over bump as my mum thought)
I'd say hormones bob
because you're going to be walking for two for a while?
I think it's because your ligaments soften everywhere in your body and the extra weight causes your arches in your feet to drop and the bones to spread a bit more.
Jeez... I'm booking in for a hysterectomy...
ah NM, dont let that bit put you off.

Thats the EASY bit lol
Yes, annie's right & your feet flatten as you get older too... nellypope you could be a size 10 by the time you're 70 lol
:o)
When I was pregnant with my son - at ante natal classes they asked everyone what shoe size they were and how tall was their husband/partner. When I said Size 4 and 6ft 2" - the midwife went 'you poor dear' (:0 ( - apparently the size of your feet indicates how big your hip bones are and with a tall husband the bigger the baby.

I went home crying, and on asking what was the matter by Mr. Den I said 'its your bloody fault for being too tall and my feet are too small'. ha ha
I always thought it`s because the skeleton becomes more supple in preparation for giving birth (ie pelvic region) and therefore all the other bones in the skeleton spread as well and that includes the feet hence you end up with bigger feet
I never new that, i wouldn't mind going up a size or two, i have tiny feet for my height and its hard to find size 3 - 4 but it does mean i can often get some childrens shoes aswell, aslong as they aren't barbie or something.
