There are several things which need to happen in Africa if the AIDS epidemic is to be tackled.
1.The Catholic Church needs to reverse its policy on condoms. This reversal in policy needs to be widely promoted using the Vatican's vast resources. The Catholic Church's influence in Africa cannot be understated.
2.The Islamic faith need to promote the same message (ie. condoms save lives).
3. Witch doctors and other such mumbo-jumbo advocates need to be exposed for what they are – outright liars or uneducated fools. In South Africa, particularly high ranking politicians still pedal the lie that AIDS doesn't actually kill people (and some claim it doesn't even exist) – they claim it's the retro-viral drugs that purport to prevent the disease that are actually causing deaths. Such people are wilfully ignorant, evil and self-destructive.
Education is the key to everything. Education in the sciences – biology, chemistry, physics.
A person without an understanding of all of these basic sciences is a potential threat not only to himself, but if he attains power, to others also.
