Can you get HDTV through an aeriel?

I've seen that ITV is now running a freeview HD channel. My question is do you just have to buy a freeview HD box to receive it or is there more to it than that?

To view HD channels on Freeview you need
EITHER
(i) a TV set with an integrated Freeview HD tuner ;
OR
(ii) an 'HD-ready' TV with a Freeview HD set-top box.

Yeah our tv is a 720 hd but wasn't sure about whether I needed a satellite dish or just the existing aerial I have which picks up normal freeview.

Your existing aerial should (if it already gives reliable Freeview reception) be perfectly adequate for receiving Freeview HD. You definitely don't need a satellite dish!

Might check out a new box for the world cup. Chris, do you think is there any point bothering with HD if our tv is only the 720 and not the 1080? Will there be any real noticeable improvement in picture quality? Or is it perhaps not worth the bother?

I'm probably not the best person to ask, Flobadob ;-)

I usually watch TV on a 5" LCD screen. My 'big' telly is an old 14" Sony Trinitron portable I bought at auction for a fiver. Even if I won the lottery jackpot I doubt that I'd 'upgrade' my TVs. I can't see much point (apart from space-saving) in big flat-screen tellies and I've no interest in HD.

Cheers, looks like 720 is grand for sports. Saw a 19" Bush TV with built in DVD player in Argos today for £130, go on and treat yourself.
