Difficult car situation!
7 Answers
Hey all!
Hope you are all ok, didnt really know where to post this, so here I am looking to find out what you guys would do!
So, I split with my ex in February, we are still kind of on talking terms and that. Two years ago he bought me a car, well got me a car on finance, the car is in his name and the finance agreement is in his name. Since we have split I have been transferring over £400 each month for the car payment.
This generally seems ok, apart from I am soon to lose my job, and will no longer be able to afford that much money. My new fella has a new job to start in a couple of weeks, and really likes my car, so has said that he will take it as a company car, and I can drive his Disco.
Fine with me, but he will not have permission from my ex to drive my car as it is still in my exes name!
Oh this is confusing, sorry! :-(

Some people have said if my ex wont play ball, drop the car off outsdie my old house, keys through the letterbox and let him deal with it, but I dont want to do that as that makes me a b!tch, and I am not like that! The settlement amount currently for the car is £8,300, and the car is worth around £6,000 so leaving him to somehow pay the difference is out of order when he bought the car for me and I have had it the last 4 months!

Hi rosetta,
When I spoke to my ex today I asked him to find out about changing the car to my name as it is to be used as a company car, so he asked if i had a new job and I said no it wouldnt be me driving it, to which he replied 'Well thats a bit weird'.
He currently is not on my insurance, so the odd time he has driven my car has only been 3rd party, but I would be adding him to my insurance and it would be changed to work use.

Sorry guys, didnt get online yesterday!
he finance is so high because the car was through Welcome Car as they were the only people we could get finance through due to bad credit ratings, so the interest is some stupid amount!
The main thought is to get a loan and pay it off, however the fact I work for a company n administration and will be out of a job in a matter of months means that no one will go near me to give me a loan or finance on anything. So that is a no go at the minute really.
I dont want to just give the car back to him and leave him to deal with it, as I think that would be unfair as I have been driving the car since I passed my test, and the car was bought for me. My ex always paid the finance when we were together, and I dont want to leave him with a car to get rid of and the difference between what he would get for the car and the finance.
