But surely there are 1024 megabytes in a gigabyte?
There certainly are but it is a common (if incorrect ditloid).
The binary system that uses 1024 bits instead also uses different terminology. The kilobit becomes the kibibit; the megabit, the mebabit; and the gigabit, the gibibit.
So why not round off a few of the others as well?

such as 140 = number withheld ?
and 20 = key to the door ?
and 2 metres in a fathom ?
many people believe there are 1000 megabytes in a gigabyte dues to the prefixes mega- and giga-
These are often confused in these type of questions.
