It depresses me so much that a lot of Indian people get paid so little and live in poverty, yet if I sent them a tenner (converted into rupees) it would make their day, and be the equivalent of a month's salary or something.

So, can I do that? Rather than giving to a charity, how can I befriend a family and send them money? Is this a ridiculous idea?

A nice idea but probably impractical. Who would you find? Chances are you don't actually know anyone in India (or if you did I would assume they would be affluent).

Would you actually be sending your money to someone deserving or not? And then there is the pride issue. How would you say to someone - I want to give you some money, wihout insulting them.

 

If you doi give it to charity, yes obvioualy some of the money does go to workers / admin etc. However, they will be giving to the deserving.

 

Please also bear in mind though that a lot more people live in poverty in other countries to. Most of the African continent as a prime example.

whats the tax like as well, i mean if it was reversed and they sent u about a �1000 a month (abut a months salary) how would the taxman feel knowing u are pocketing the equivalent of 12k a year tax free?

Have a look around for sponsership schemes where u can sponsor someone through their education and get them qualifications to earn good money for themselves and their family. No one wants hand outs but most people would accept help towards giving themselves a chance to improve life themselves
