Fire Evacuation
2 Answers
My sister has just moved premises with her company which is a charity. She now works on the first floor of a building which is divided in half by just a partition. The only entry and exit point is via the stairs. Windows on this floor open but not enough to get out. There is no fire warden that she knows of nor a fire evacuation diagram on the wall. She has been told if a fire breaks out and they cannot descend the stairs then they go to the far end of the building and await rescue. I am sure that being a business premise then there must be a second exit point. an appointed person and an assembly point. No fire test has been carried out either. There is a approximately 18 people working on this level. Any help about this, or where to look up these facts, would be gratefully appreciated on her behalf.

I'm not sure whether this is legal requirement but if she phones her local fire brigade and asks to speak to the fire safety officer for her area, they will come to the premises to advise.
