According the the financial pages of the newspapers, the best exchange rate is at Eurochange if you have one of those near you
Open a Euro Account.

When the exchange rate is good, top it up.

Then you can sit back and gloat when people moan about the exchange rate.

Maybe a bit late for June this year, but ... if you do it ... you'll thank me next year !
You walk round your local High Street until you find it - there is no one outlet that is consistently best. Sometimes some of them will price match

Better is to find a friend who has been and buy his surplus for a rate that cuts out the BdeC loading for both of you.

Thanks 237sj, joggerjayne & dzug2 for your helpful advice, will make enquiries,
Look how volatile the Euro rate can be ...

When you buy, buy extra. If GBP continues to strengthen, buy more again.

If the Euro strengthens, spend them. Or ... swap them back and make a profit.

You can easily make a profit on currency speculation IF(!) it is not imperative that you re-convert the currency at a better rate.

And, in our case ... it is not imperative because our fall-back position is that, at some time in the future, we will actually spend them.
