I have had some ceramic tiles laid in my conservatory. The invoice states cost of tiles, then sum for labour and materials. I requested an itemised invoice from the fitter, as the work did not take as long as he had quoted. He was rather offhand on the phone to me and refused to change the invoice, saying that why should I know what his labour charge was.I have always received itemised invoices from other work people, so did not feel wrong in asking. Am I right in my request especially as he said that he would come to my house tonight for the money!

I am not sure about the legalities as it may be that if you had a quotation which you accepted then this is the amount you would be expected to pay. You would be better to put this question in Home and Garden jmb - lots of experts over there.

Hi jmb - It might have been advisable to ask for an itemised quotation or a Pro -Forma invoice before the work commenced, thus saving any confusion.
However, if you agreed for the work to go ahead & agreed to pay the amount stated on the quotation (presumably plus vat), then that's the amount the fitter or Company would expect to receive from you. The fact that the job took less time than anticipated, is I would say, a bonus.
