Just Passed my test :-)
26 Answers
I passed my test a few days. Yay!!!! :-)
I have tried to get quotes for car insurance and it's coming up at £1100, and that's 3rd party too.
I'm a 26 year old female and was told it would be cheaper cos of my age etc.. I know i only just passed, but still thought it'd be cheaper ;-$ I'm trying to get it on a Citroen Saxo 1.1 SX
My friend was 21 when she passed and she has said she has only ever paid £40 a month 3rd party (not on anyone else's insurance)
Any suggestions or is this the best i can do and is it what i'm going to pay? Any suggestions on who to go with that's cheaper appreciated :-)
Ta very much xx

I've just renewed my fully comp. policy and I pay £146 per year (including about £20 or £30 extra legal cover) for my VW Golf. I'm 48 with the maximum (9 years I think) No Claims Bonus. As Eddie says, Third Party would be more expensive for me so that may be worth exploring, although I think Third Party will be cheapest for you just having past your test.
I don't even bother looking around now but when I have in the past I've noticed that the most expensive insurance firms are those who advertise on TV and other media. Those series of adverts are horribly expensive and they obviously have to recoup the costs from their premiums. Perhaps try those insurers who don't advertise much.
Insurance has gone through the roof over the last 20 years. I think £1000 is probably a realistic average now yellownana. The Third Party insurance on my first car when I was 18 was £82 for the year - for a Rover P6! That was when my boss's insurance on his Escort was £35 for the year! It's outrageous how new drivers have to pay four figure sums now. The trouble is that cars are more powerful today, there are more cars on the road, people are more impatient and drivers tend to drive much faster so they have more accidents. Combine that with inexperience and you get a whole heap of trouble for the insurers.
