'One in large family clan allowed to stay at university.'

I can see up is 'at university' and let is allowed. but why is clan sept?
5d Septuplet - 'up' (at Uni) (in) 'sept' (clan, Irish) & 'let' (allowed)
clan = sept http://dictionary.ref...t?r=75&src=ref&ch=dic
allowed = let
at university = up
Sept is an old word for a division of a family or clan - have a look here:

Large family clan = Sept
U = University

I think "up" is the University reference (to be up at Uni)
