I thought of analogue but my IT brain thought it meant something else. So I kept looking.

It had me puzzled for a bit too, but one dictionary definition is as stated in the question.  I am more used to this definition:
A continuously variable signal or a circuit or device designed to handle such signals. The opposite is "digital" which has discrete values.

Hi Alan.   I think the answer is analogue.

 Can you help me with 26D.  Acronym for 1984 Act of parliament dealing with detention of suspects and their rights.  JaneOliver
