I found the pain was at it's worst when the fracture that I had was healing - which was odd, but the consultant assured me that it was the nerves knitting back together again. That was my experience - please seek medical advice if you're concerned - every injury is different!! I do hope that you feel better soon.
3 months isn't actually that long. Keep in mind what the ankle is - a major hinge for movement and weight bearing. Recovery time depends on various factors, e.g. whether there has been previous injury, whether there was artery or nerve damage, and whether or not you required surgery. If a cast was required, this would mean longer recovery time as the ankle would need to be remobilised and strengthened. Having said all that, a lot depends on just how much pain you mean. I would say expect some ongoing discomfort but see your doc if you mean severe pain.
After sustaining a stable fracture in my ankle it took me a year to be able to bend the ankle properly and still felt quite a bit of pain. If it is very painful I would suggest checking it out with your GP. It takes time to recover from such an injury.

You have to stick rigidly to exercises given to you by your physio. The exercises are very sore but worth perservering with.
I fractured my ankle about 3 years ago playing football and still have problems with it. That is probably because I've hurt it again 2 or 3 times since then and each time, if i'm honest with myself I've never let it heal properly before playing again. I tend to feel the pain when I least expect to, for instance, I often get twinges of pain when i'm in bed or when i'm climbing stairs. Best advice would be to rest it as much as possible and take your time before pushing it too hard again.
