D.L.A & Incapacity benefit

Thanks for link, i filled in a sample form and answered yes to all questions for my daughter until the last question where it said has he/she had her legs amputated or 80% blind which answer is no, so it said unlikly to recieve any help, how pathetic is that, i will fight til day dot to get this for her if it kills me! Thanks anyway. xx

tamirra have you spoken to anyone at your nearest citizens advice bureaux office, they give very good advice and help for free.

If you have a social worker , they will help you to complete the form also.Helped my neighbour claim attendance allowance for her invalid husband.

No she has no social worker, i know this is going to be such a huge headache as the disease she has been diagnosed with is not really known in the UK, but im determined to get her some help. x

I really sympathise tamirra - my sis in law developed ME and had to give up her work, and every time she went for an interview with social services, they turned down her down because the condition wasn't very well know - or considered to be serious. The whole system is pathetic ......

D L A is what you get if you are disabled to help you to live and Incapacity benefit is what you get when you cannot work......Same as Income support.
I know this as i have a severely disabled daughter.

I doubt that anyone (except under special rules) gets DLA first time, it took me three appeals and they granted the low rate, this was because my GP encouraged me to persevere, its a battle so try to get someone onside who can help you.

I applied for DLA twice and was turned down. The second time I appealed and a doctor was sent to my home to examine me and put me through a few tests. I was subsequently granted the higher rate mobility and the lower rate care component. I was initially told I would have to reapply in 5 years time but recently have been told my award is for an indefinite period.

Incapacity benefit no longer exists for new claimants, it is now ESA (employment support allowance) and this is notoriously difficult to get. I know of people who are incapable of work due to varying reasons who have been denied this benefit.

have to agree with the above. i was turned down then appealed and i am now on middle rate for care and higher rate for mobility. In my darkest moments, i think the system is designed to turn everyone down first time so they can weed out those who aren't serious.
DLA is given if you need help with mobility or personal care.
ESA is given if you cant work because of your illness
