deleting duplicates on itunes

for some reason, between me and my husband and son, we have some songs twice or even more. How do i delete some so that i only have the originals?
I have tried the itunes help, but it might as well be in swahilli (sp!)

To remove them, tracks must be deleted from the main Music library window, not from playlists. Highlight the track you want to remove, then either drag it to the trash/wastebasket, click delete in the Edit menu or hit the delete/backspace key on your keyboard

so i would have to do them individually? There are over a thousand!

There is a command Display Duplicates under the file menu that helps. Make sure that your original isn't shown. Then select and delete as before. I would suggest trying this out in small bathes at first to make sure you aren't removing the wanted versions
