5mth old with big red spots that come and go! Any ideas?

Hi all, my baby began to get red spots on his tummy over a week ago (when we were on the aeroplane going to Spain would you believe!) I noticed them soon after take off and presumed it was chickenpox as they soon spread all over during the flight but not onto his face so noone noticed. The next day he had even more but was completely fine in himself then they began to get really blotchy too and he had big red patches in his armpits and other hotter areas. I took him to the pharmacist and she suggested the doctor but as he was so well we didn't want to spend time at the hospital and I was certain it was chickenpox until the next day when they faded then went completely! We got back on Thurs and last night he started again with it, a few red spots. Today he has lots more all over him, exactly the same as before and as our GP is closed I could go to the walk in centre but have found the GP's there to be useless so would rather wait til Mon. As usual he is completely well in himself. I am thinking allergies are causing it but have no idea what it could be. He is fully weaned and has been for weeks now and not had anything new except mushrooms and a tiny bit of cheese. Could this be it, how will we find out?

Cut out both for about 2 weeks, then introduce just the cheese and then watch. If that produces the blotches then it is a allergy to cow's milk protein, if it doesn't then introduce the mushrooms and watch for the same effects.
Just thought of another thing, is there any possibility this could get worse or affect him in another way cos Ive made a huge batch of meals for him and can't be certain whether there could be mushrooms or cheese in some of them or not. Unless of course I throw the whole lot away which would pain me considerably as it took me hours but baby's health definitely comes first. What would happen if he continued to eat them?
